Know Machu Picchu

The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu was built between the mountains of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, on 2,400 meters of altitude, in the south of Peru.

It is believed to have been built by the Incas before the 15th century and that its original name was Llaqtapata.

It is considered a World Heritage Site and one of the seven new wonders of the modern world. It not only stands out for its incredible architectural construction and engineering, but also for its breathtaking landscapes around.

Machu Picchu has more than 172 enclosures, divided into farms - an agricultural area located to the south; and a residential area, where its inhabitants lived and performed their religious and civil activities.

You can also find the Templo del Sol, where ceremonies took place during the solstice of June. Other buildings are the Plaza Sagrada, the Residencia Real and the Roca Sagrada sector, which corresponds to the starting point of the road to the Huayna Picchu Mountain.

Machu Picchu is connected to several paths that allow you to reach other complexes of ruins like the Templo de la Luna, to the north of Huyna Picchu. The most famous is the "Camino Inca", a trekking route with a duration of three or four days that crosses important ceremonial centers like Wiñay Wayna.
